Walking Tours
Poor Richard's Walking Tours (tel: (215) 206 1682; website: www.phillywalks.com) covers four centuries of literary, cultural, religious and political history on an enlightening tour of the city's main sights. Tours last two-three hours and cost US$15. Ghost Tour (tel: (215) 413 1997; website: www.ghosttour.com) and History and Mystery Tours (tel: (877) 724 4678; website: www.philahistory-tours.com) both visit historic and haunted sights in the Old City and Society Hill; both tours cost US$10. Special interest tours include a Wok'n'Tour of Chinatown (tel: (215) 928 9333) and a Chef's Tour of the Italian Market (tel: (215) 772 0739).

Bus and Trolley Tours
Philadelphia Trolley Works (tel: (215) 925 TOUR or 8687; website: www.phillytour.com) gives river-to-river city tours, including Fairmount Park, with an all-day hop-on hop-off pass covering 20 stops; cost US$18. American Trolley Tours (tel: (215) 333 2119) gives tours of historic Philadelphia with pick-ups from hotels and visitor centres. Martz/Gray Line Tours (tel: (800) 577 7745) offers a range of coach tours from the historic city to shopping malls.

Bike Tours
Trophy Bikes, 311 Market Street (tel: (215) 625 7999; website: www.trophybikes.com), offers cycle tours of historic Philadelphia areas and park in April-October. Prices start at US$30 a day for a bike, helmet and guide.
